CONNI MCKENZIE is a multidisciplinary artist in the Bay Area. Her areas of focus are dance, video production, mixed-media, and photography.
Much of Conni's work focuses on highlighting the phenmenons of the natural world. In 2021, she released her first full concept film “Set Me Free.” The film was featured in the 2021 San Francisco Dance Film Festival and received several awards from festivals in North America and Europe. In the same year, she also co-directed another short called “Lungs of the Earth.” This film was featured in the Bay Area Shorts Festival and was included within an exhibit in Thatcher Gallery.
Outside of her projects, Conni works as a dance instructor for all ages. She loves being able to share her practice with others and watching her students grow over time.
When she isn't dancing or holding a camera, Conni loves spending time with her family and friends. She enjoys hiking, kayaking, and dining at restuarants.
Conni is currently a resident artist with New Performance Traditions and BoxoPROJECTS. She is also a 2023 Fieldwork artist with FACT/SF.
I tell stories through modern innovation.
While my foundations are in dance and video production, many of my creative projects are multidisciplinary in nature. I find a lot of creative liberty within experimental approaches, and I often layer imagery, movement, sound, and site within my projects.
The focus of my work centers around sustainability from the perspective of a Black artist. Previous projects have highlighted mental health, environmental justice, and collective reform.
The Creative Seen
(Coming Summer 2024)
The Creative Seen will document my experiences as a working artist and as an
emmerging business owner. We will dive deep into the journey of self-discovery,
leveraging one's talents, and finding balance as a creative.
Outside of my work, I am a passionate traveler and have captured my experiences through photography and video. Over the course of several years, I’ve captured thousands of photos, videos, stories, and lessons from traveling and plan to share some of these as a part of the first round of content for The Creative Seen.
We hope that viewers are inspired to create meaningful lifestyles that support their creativity and curiosity. The Creative Seen will pilot on Instagram and Youtube.
